It is time again to transcribe a document and this time it is an original document that I have, a report card that was issued to Olena Haner while she was preparing for Confirmation. Olena Haner (1903-1996) was my father's mother, or my paternal grandmother. Olena was the daughter of Warren W. and Anna Malene (Ostrom) Haner. At the age of 12, Olena participated in Bible School, taking Catechism classes and here we can see her scores.
This is primarily a "fill-in-the-blanks" form, with the printed portion being in Danish. I have attempted to translate this form using Google-Translate at https://translate.google.com, but some of it isn't translating well, maybe some kind soul of my Danish-speaking readers can provide the necessary corrections by a comment to this article. I have come close with the intent of the subject matter
The portions that are handwritten I have included in red font and what I have translated are in blue and placed inside of square brackets [ ].

I think you'll agree that Olena's marks are good. She apparently liked school, although this was Catechism classes at her church, it still indicates to us all these years later, that overall she liked learning. From the dates on the report, we see that classes were held during summer. I know that Olena helped on her parent's farm, so maybe there was a bit of being glad to not have to do chores. It is difficult to know, as the Olena, I remember, was hard working and a self-starter, but she also had a good sense of humor, so it could go either way.
The Spring Lake Church is located near where Olena's parent's farm was. In Spring Lake Township, Ward County, North Dakota, USA. This is about 3 miles northeast of the town of Douglas, ND.
Olena safeguarded this document and upon her death it was kept by her son, Lloyd Johnson and then about 5 years ago it was given to me. I am thankful to have it and pleased it is available to share with you now.
Hope your week goes well. Thank you for stopping by today to see what I have been up to.
