Happy Anniversary to HomeFOLK Tales

Dear FOLKS,

Hello Everyone, Happy Blogiversary to us!

I have been watching the calendar knowing that January 27th was an important date for the blog. It was one year ago today that I published my first article here and what a fun year it has been.

HomeFOLK Tales has had 10,579 views in the past twelve months. Learning that blew me away. It was only a few days ago, I was watching the page-view count click up towards 10,000. I crossed my fingers in hopes that you all would help to boost the count to what I had now set as a goal... and YOU DID IT! Thank you so much for being my faithful readers.

Over the past year I have published 102 posts. With regularity there has usually been a Monday and a Wednesday article about our family's history.  As you all may remember, I started this blog to honor my research buddy, who was also my cousin, Ed Ostrom (1944-2015) who had recently passed away. He had honored me by leaving me his digital files and I am sure with kicking off this blog we have done exactly what he would have liked.

It was fun to learn where you are reading these from. The pageviews have been generated in the following locations:

  • United States: 9380
  • Norway:  499
  • Canada: 337
  • Luxembourg: 69
  • Ireland: 51
  • Australia: 50
  • France: 31
  • United Kingdom: 12
  • Greece: 11

The three most viewed posts were all generated as "Ed's Day Wednesday" articles.

1. The Ostroms : According to Toline   188 pageviews
November 30, 2016

2. The Emersons : According to Estelle, Part One    171 pageviews
September 7, 2016

3.The Decade of the 1930's in Ward County, North Dakota  171 pageviews
March 9, 2016

I have purposefully kept the circulation fairly locked down. Primarily, I publish to my friends (and family) on Facebook, Genealogy Bloggers (a FB group), and my circles on Google+. I also have a list of email subscribers that I send the articles to directly. I began to add people to this list after discovering using the email subscripting tool on Blogger (the editor for publishing I use) seemed to be inconsistent with sending.

We have done many firsts this past year. I can remember my nervousness while preparing the first few articles. I would literally hold my breath when I pressed the "Publish" button. I do better about that now. I can also remember all the encouraging comments you made. Occasionally a passage within an article will generate a nice round of comments and these were fun to participate in.

Another first for us is, in fact, this article... it is a simple thing... our FIRST evening post.

So thank you all for sticking with me and helping me to have a successful first year. It has been a year of exciting new things. I look forward to our second year of publications, making more family connections and bringing to you the stories our ancestors made.

You are the reason this blog exists. THANK YOU!
