This week's transcription project is the obituary for Ane Kristine Lauritzen née Jorgensen. Ane was my 2x great-aunt as she was sister to my great-grandfather, William Christian Jorgensen/Johnson. Ane was born in Udby, Tuse, Holbæk, Denmark on 12 December 1871. She came to America in 1888 and in 1893 she married Lauritz Lauritzen, most likely in Fresno, California.
On a trip through California's central valley in October, 2015, I made plans to take a side trip to the Monterey area on the Pacific Coast. Prior to making this trip, I called the library local to the Monterey area and found out they were going to be closed for an internal project they were working on. "Bummer," I thought. But while on the phone, they offered to look up the obituaries I needed, if I were to send them a request by email. I immediately prepared a request and sent it off. Within only a few days, I received copies of the articles they had. This was one of them.
I want to share Ane Kristine's obituary with you today.

This article forgets to mention her brother William because by 1941 William had already passed away, he died in 1938. Also her brother Louis Johnson was listed as Peter Johnson.
It was only a few months earlier that I had discovered my great-grandfather William Johnson had been born Wilhelm Christian Jorgensen. I had learned that William had taken a road trip to Fresno, California from his home in North Dakota. From there I discovered that he had a number of relatives who had also left Denmark for America and had settled in Fresno. William and his wife Marie née Julson had sent the winter months traveling and visiting William's California relatives. A wonderful adventure for them, I am sure.
I don't know the details of who was visited, I can only hope that Ane Kristine and her family were included.
Amanuensis Monday is a weekly blog theme that was started by John Newmark, the author of TransylvanianDutch blog. John defines Amanuensis as "A person employed to write what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another." I also appreciate the good work and format examples of San Diego genealogist Randy Seaver of the blog Genea-musings. Thanks guys.
Transcribing helps me to learn what a document contains. I have learned over time that I have a tendency to "skim" over an item; a bad trait for a researcher who needs to learn even the smallest details documented records contain. Transcribing helps me to slow down and "smell the roses," and to capture all aspects of the paper in hand. It also gives me a better opportunity to share the document with you.
Thank you for stopping by today and letting me share this newspaper article with you. I also hope that your week has had a great start. Have a good day.
