Ed's Day Wednesday
Dear FOLKS,
I want to now introduce you to another of my late cousin, Edwin J. Ostrom's family members. It is my pleasure to share with you the records, documents, storied and anecdotes that Ed collected; along with including the additional things I have also found. Last week we concluded the telling of most of the life of Raymond Emerson, who was born in Norway as Reinert Ommundsen. I next want to tell of Raymond's wife, the next person on Ed's genealogy Names List. For a review of Ed's genealogy you can click here to jump to that article.
I am pleased to introduce you to Inger Tobine Tallachsdatter (1836-1918) [whose number and the title of this article should have been #13 -- yikes!] and begin to tell of her life story. Inger is included in Generation #4; the Great-Grandparents generation. Inger was one of Ed's great-grandmothers on his mother's side.

Inger Tobine Tallachsdatter, her maiden name is found also written as Tallaksdatter, Tolaksdatter. I have tried to decipher the church register as close as I can read it and the spelling for her father's first name is written as Tallach, making her patronymic surname -- Tallachsdatter, or Tallach's daughter. Inger would first marry while in Norway to Ole Atlaksen Lindeland. Ole would die in 1865 and she would marry (second) her long friend from home, Raymond Emerson in September 1867. Inger and Ole had traveled from Norway with Raymond. More details of this, we'll cover in a future article.
Ed descended through:
* their daughter, #3 Alice Viola Emerson, who married #2 Edwin "Tom" Ostrom
* to #1 on the Names List, Edwin "Ed" Junior Ostrom (1944-2015)

FHL microfilm: 803574.
In the 1860 U.S. Census, the Lindeland name is spelled incorrectly. Inger Tobine is shown as Feebeny, although it looks more like Tubeny to me. One of our other family researchers posted a correction to Ancestry.com asking for an alternate name entry. Makes me wonder if Inger Tobine is using Tobine as her first name. Raymond Emerson is entered on line #33.
*line 30 - Ole Lindaland -- age 30, male, farmer, Value of Real Estate $800 and value of personal property $200, born in Norway

The 1910 U.S. Federal Census provided this information about Inger Tobine Emerson. This record is very difficult to read because it is so light. The document on Ancestry.com is almost impossible to decipher. But I found the same thing at familyseach.org that was much clearer when zoomed in many times.
*line 47 - dwelling 8, family 8, Emerson, Inger T. -- Head of household, Female, White, age 73, widowed, number of years of present marriage 36, number of children born 12, of these 7 are still living, born in Nor [Norway] of Norwegian descendent, both parents born in Norway, immigrated to the U.S. in 1855, speaks English, has her own income, can read & write, owns her home, it is free from a mortgage, residence is a house [rather than a farm].
