#4 -- Alfred Marem Johnson (1893-1931)

Here I am, back with another chance to tell you about my family. Once a week, I plan to tell a new story left behind by my ancestors. Today, I want to introduce you to my paternal grandfather, Alfred Marem Johnson, the first person on my Names List. For a review of this list, please click here.

Alfred Marem Johnson is #4 on my ancestor Names List and he was my paternal grandfather. I descend through:

* his son, #3 William Richard Johnson (1930-2010) who married #2 Marilyn Eileen Brown (1928-2006) in 1946.
* me, #1 Darlene Marie Johnson (1946-living)

Baptism: 24 December 1893 at Lake Preston Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Preston, Kingsbury County, South Dakota, USA. [1]

Residence: 1900 in Flandreau, Moody County, South Dakota, USA, with his parents. Alfred is shown as age six. [2]

Residence: 1905 in Grovena Township, Moody County, South Dakota, USA. Living in Section 3, Township 106, Range 48. Alfred is age eleven. [3]

Residence: 1910 in Cameron Township, Ward County, North Dakota, USA. Alfred is age 16. [4]

Residence: 05 June 1917 in Douglas, Ward County, North Dakota, USA. Alfred works as a carpenter. [5]

Military Service: 8 September 1917-18 March 1919 served in the U.S. Army. Inducted at Minot, North Dakota and Trained at Camp Dodge, Iowa. Served in two Field Artillery units, first in Battery A, of the 338th and then in Battery C. of the 335th. Reached the rank of Chief Mechanic. Served in France from 01 March 1918 until 05 March 1919. Marriage:  15 April 1923 Alfred marries Olena Marie Haner in Douglas, Ward County, North Dakota. [7]

Residence: 1930 Working as a public school janitor while living in Cameron Township, Ward County, North Dakota. [8]

Death: 29 May 1931 at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, King County, Washington. The family was living in the White Center area. Alfred died of Spinal Meningitis. His name on the death certificate is Alfred Marem Johnson. Burial location is blank. [9]
