Here it is the beginning of a new work week for many people and I want to start this week off by transcribing a document that is important to my family research.
Amanuensis Monday is a weekly blog theme that was started by John Newmark, the author of TransylvanianDutch blog. John defines Amanuensis as "A person employed to write what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another." I also appreciate the good work and format examples of San Diego genealogist Randy Seaver of the blog Genea-musings. Thanks guys.
Transcribing helps me to learn what a document contains. I have learned over time that I have a tendency to "skim" over an item; a bad trait for a researcher who needs to learn even the smallest details documented records contain. Transcribing helps me to slow down and "smell the roses."
The document I am transcribing today is the obituary of Toline Ostrom. Toline (aka "Lena") was my 2x great-grandmother on my father's side. Her maiden name was Toline Gunnulsdatter Paulson. Last week I transcribed her husband's obituary. You can find that here.

-------- transcription begins -------
Mrs. O. O. Ostrom, pioneer resident of the Elbow Lake community passed away at her farm home three miles north of Elbow Lake Tuesday night at 11:50 o’clock, following a stroke. Mrs. Ostrom has not been very well since January. A week ago Sunday she suffered a slight stroke and on the evening of her death another which caused her death.
Mrs. Ostrom was 88 years old on her last birthday, March 9. She was born in Norway. Mr. Ostrom died about ten years ago. Mr. Ostrom homesteaded the farm which remained their home during their lifetime.
Mrs. Ostrom is survived by five sons and three daughters. One of the daughters, Mrs. Elsie Nims of California, has been at home caring for her mother for several months. One son and one daughter preceded their mother in death.
For those following along with the series of Ed's Day Wednesdays posts I am writing, Toline Ostrom and her husband Olaus are the common direct ancestors shared between my late "cousin" Ed Ostrom and me. Toline and Olaus were Ed's great-grandparents and my second great-grandparents. Their son Oscar Ostrom was Ed's grandfather and their daughter Anna Ostrom Haner was my great-grandmother.
