Amanuensis Monday - 1897 Marriage Record for Thomas Eugene Brown (1874-1935) and Anna Nittler (1870-1937)

Dear FOLKS,

It's Monday and time for our weekly transcription project. In the spirit of Valentine's Day occurring this week, I am happy to share with you the record showing a marriage of my maternal great-grandparents. Their names were Thomas Eugene Brown and Anna Nittler. Thomas was born and lived his whole life in Guthrie County, Iowa. He was usually called Tom. So it was in Casey that these two young people became acquainted. Thomas and Anna were my mother's paternal grandparents.

This is a columnar fill-in-the-blanks form that becomes a register with many pages. I have transcribed the top heading, column headings which shows the marriage between Thomas and Anna. The information found on the blank form shows in the standard black font, the information that was typed or written, shows in bold, italic, red font. Any of my comments will be surrounded in square brackets [ ].

Amanuensis Monday is a weekly blog theme that was started by John Newmark, the author of TransylvanianDutch blog. John defines Amanuensis as "A person employed to write what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another." I also appreciate the good work and format examples of San Diego genealogist Randy Seaver of the blog Genea-musings. Thanks, guys.

I am reminded that transcribing helps me to learn what a document contains. I have learned over time that I have a tendency to "skim" over an item; a bad trait for a researcher who needs to learn even the smallest details documented records contain. Transcribing helps me to slow down; to capture all aspects of the paper in hand. It also gives me a better opportunity to share the document with you.

It was fun to share with you a marriage record during Valentine's Day week. Thank you for stopping by so we could look at this document together. I hope your week gets a great start.
