Today's Amanuensis Monday project is the Last Will and Testament for John G. Paulson. This document I found within the database "Saskatchewan, Probate Estate Files, 1887-1931" provided by familysearch.org.
John G. Paulson was born in Bø, Telemark, Norway. At birth, his name was John Gunnuldson, the second child of Gunnuld Paulson and Gunnild Johnsdatter. John was the older brother of Toline G. Paulson. Toline was my 2x great-grandmother, thus making John my 3rd great uncle. For cousin Ed Ostrom, Toline was his great-grandmother and John was his 2x great uncle.
John had a most interesting life. In a snapshot, in 1864 he married Anna Mickelsdatter a local girl from Bø. They left for America in 1880, bringing his family and his widowed mother with them. They settled in Greenfield Township, Richland County, North Dakota. Wife Anna died in 1905 and subsequent to that, John and two of his adult children and their families left the US to become homesteaders in Canada. They settled close together in southwestern Saskatchewan south of the small town of Tyner.
There are not many wills in my family's files so I am pleased to have this one to share with you. I am fortunate that this one is a simple to read fill-in-the-blanks form. I am happy to see Uncle John's actual signature on this form. I have shown the handwritten items in red for clarification. My clarification comments are surrounded by square brackets [ ].

The complete probate file is included in this collection but for simplicity's sake, I chose to share only John's will today. Within the rest of the file, there is a statement made that John died on 25 March 1921.
Amanuensis Monday is a weekly blog theme that was started by John Newmark, the author of TransylvanianDutch blog. John defines Amanuensis as "A person employed to write what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another." I also appreciate the good work and format examples of San Diego genealogist Randy Seaver of the blog Genea-musings. Thanks, guys.
I am reminded that transcribing helps me to learn what a document contains. I have learned over time that I have a tendency to "skim" over an item; a bad trait for a researcher who needs to learn even the smallest details documented records contain. Transcribing helps me to slow down; to capture all aspects of the paper in hand. It also gives me a better opportunity to share the document with you.
Thank you for stopping by today and letting me share this with you. Hope yours is a good week.
