Here it is Monday and time for the weekly transcription project. Today, I will share the Marriage Record for William Emerson and Marian Selma Nyquist's that occurred on 10 August 1942. This record literally jumped onto my computer screen. I wasn't really looking for it, but there is was. So as with other times, when something wants to be shared so much that it just "appears," I can't argue.
William Emerson was my late cousin Ed Ostrom's maternal uncle, an older brother of Alice Emerson, Ed's mother. It is interesting to note that the marriage took place in Sidney, Richland County, Montana. Both the bride and the groom were from the Minot, North Dakota area. I was curious about the correct spelling of the judge's name, so I did a Google search on the name "J.B. Dawe," to see if I had it spelled correctly. In doing so, I ran across another couple from Minot who was also married by this same judge in Sidney, Montana three years later. At this time, was Sidney a go-to destination to get married, like Scotland's famous Gretna Green? It made me wonder.
The marriage witnesses included the bride's mother, Martha (Ulledahl) Nyquist. My current thinking is that the other witness, Stan Rudd, may have been a friend/acquaintance but I could not find a connection.
Here is a copy of the page from the Marriage Register, this includes the license and certificate. It is a fill-in-the-blanks form in a pre-printed book. This appears to have been digitized onto microfilm. I have typed the handwritten information in bold, italics, red font to reflect a difference from the form. My comments will be surrounded by square brackets [ ].

Amanuensis Monday is a weekly blog theme that was started by John Newmark, the author of TransylvanianDutch blog. John defines Amanuensis as "A person employed to write what another dictates or to copy what has been written by another." I also appreciate the good work and format examples of San Diego genealogist Randy Seaver of the blog Genea-musings. Thanks, guys.
Transcribing helps me to learn what a document contains. I have learned over time that I have a tendency to "skim" over an item; a bad trait for a researcher who needs to learn even the smallest details documented records contain. Transcribing helps me to slow down and "smell the flowers," and to capture all aspects of the paper in hand. It also gives me a better opportunity to share the document with you.
I hope you too enjoyed today's post. I also hope your week has had a good start. This upcoming Thursday will be Thanksgiving 2017 in the U.S. making for a busy week for many. Thank you for joining me here.
