Ed's Day Wednesday
Dear FOLKS,
This week we will look at the few records that have been found for Ommund Ommundsen while he was an adult. Ommund's entire history is found in Norway. Because of my limited knowledge of the Norwegian language, I have found only a few records so far. I am pleased with the information that the Norway Digitalarkivet website has placed on-line.
Last week we covered the three marriage events of Ommund. You can read about these by clicking here.
Ommund was a farmer and this I found while reviewing the 1865 and 1875 Norway census records. Let me show you what they tell us. I have not found scanned copies of the original census documents, what is available are nicely formatted transcribed worksheets that are searchable. I was able to find these some time ago by entering Ommund's name into a search field.

As we can see their farm was modest. There is no clear indication of how money was earned to pay for property taxes, church tithing, and necessities. Perhaps they occasionally sold an animal, or the crops of oats and potatoes would provide enough over their own needs to be sold locally.
Eventually, Ommund would reach an age where he turned the ownership of the farm over to his youngest son Berint. This allowed Ommund to be semi-retired. He continued to live on the farm, but was no longer in charge.
Then on 06 February 1895, Ommund would die. His cause of death was unstated on the church's register. At seventy-five, he likely died from natural causes, an unusual reason would have been mentioned. Here is that record.

I am hoping that as time goes by more will be added to what we know about Ommund and others. In the meantime, we need to wish to Ommund, "Hvil i fred, min kjære forfedre" [Rest in peace, my dear ancestor].
I hope your week is going well. Thank you so much for stopping by. I look forward to next time.
